Limited Government
The principle of limited government goes hand in hand with natural law. The National GOP Platform states: “The Declaration sets forth the fundamental precepts of American government: That God bestows certain inalienable rights on every individual, thus producing human equality; that government exists first and foremost to protect those inalienable rights; that man-made law must be consistent with God-given, natural rights; and that if God-given, natural, inalienable rights come in conflict with government, court, or human-granted rights, God-given, natural, inalienable rights always prevail; that there is a moral law recognized as “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God”; and that American government is to operate with the consent of the governed. It is the solemn compact built upon principles of the Declaration that enshrines our God-given individual rights and ensures that all Americans stand equal before the law, defines the purposes and limits of government, and is the blueprint for ordered liberty that makes the United States the world’s freest and most prosperous nation.”
SEPARATION OF POWERS
Our founding fathers understood the importance of having checks and balances in our government. This is a principle that should be engraved into every American’s heart and soul. Republicans believe that having equal powers between each branch of the government. Our Republic needs protection from tyranny that the framers of the Constitution clearly understood. Making sure that the Legislative, Judicial and Executive branches have equal power can make changes difficult to say the least; however, this is by design.
LOCAL CONTROL
The Grand Old Party believes in the government of the people and by the people. The best way to achieve this is to have local control. “Big government undermines federalism through more than 1,100 grants-in-aid programs that consume more than one-sixth of the federal budget for matters that should be the exclusive responsibility of the states. Through these programs, money originating from state taxpayers is returned to the states, usually greatly reduced, with myriad strings attached. These grants turn state and local elected officials into agents of the federal government. The web of conditions and regulations — especially the requirement of matching funds that comes with federal grants — transforms recipients into appendages of the Washington bureaucracy. We call upon Congress to help a Republican president to reduce and ultimately eliminate this system of conditioned grants so that state and local taxpayers can decide for themselves what is best for their own communities.” per the GOP platform.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
Republicans believe that the leaders of our Country, our State, and our local government must be fiscally responsible. This means the government needs to live within their means. The path the federal government is going down is unsustainable and puts everything that, we as Americans, believe in jeopardy. Economic growth is what fuels the economy and provides for the American dream!. Per the GOP Platform: “Republican budgets will prioritize thrift over extravagance and put taxpayers first. We support the following test: Is a particular expenditure within the constitutional scope o”f the federal government? If not, stop it. Has it been effective in the past and is it still absolutely necessary? If not, end it. Is it so important to justify borrowing, especially foreign borrowing, to find it? If not, kill it.
FREE MARKETS
The American Dream is built on the ability to provide a good or a service to a fellow citizen for a fair price and they are able to do the same. When the government manipulates or subsidizes certain markets or limiting prices in other markets, thes only hurts the people. Ayn Rand said it best, “Political freedom cannot exist without economic freedom; a free mind and a free market are corollaries.” Free markets encourage competition. When there is competition, then the quality of the good or service goes up while the monetary cost goes down. A happy entrepreneur will tell you how they would prefer to make more of a product at less of a per unit price if they are able to sell more.
HUMAN DIGNITY
Republicans believe that all people are made in the image of GOD and are equal in the eyes of the law. Dignity and value are found in every human and are measured by the acts of their character. A fair and just government embraces a variety of many cultures and religious practices, preserves and protects all life, and praises family & marriage because these are vital to a healthy society and morality. A pathway out of poverty is public policy that encourages education and highlights the benefits of hard work.“Nothing ever comes to one, that is worth having, except as a result of hard work.” — Booker T. Washington. We acknowledge that there is a need for public assistance; however, it should be reserved for those truly in need. The right to life means that a man has the right to support his life by his own work (on any economic level, as high as his ability will carry him); it does not mean that others must provide him with the necessities of life. – Ayn Rand
INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM
The Declaration of Independence was the birth of our great nation. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness.” As Republicans, we believe that the concept of the Pursuit of Happiness is NOT happiness provided by the government to the people, but the freedom is in the ability to pursue happiness without the government. Individual freedom must be protected! The bill of rights outlines these rights/freedoms. The government can not and shall not keep the citizens of our great country from their individual freedoms.
RULE OF LAW
When we [Americans] talk about the rule of law, we assume that we’re talking about a law that promotes freedom, that promotes justice, that promotes equality.—U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy. To be truly free, we believe that every citizen has a responsibility and one can not have freedom without accountability. Governments get their power and authority from its citizens and that citizens have the right to determine who their rulers will be. Our founding fathers believed we are “a government of laws, not of men”. Administering laws must be done equally and without prejudice. Government has a responsibility to be transparent and not overstep their duties outlined in the constitution
PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH
Ronald Reagan best said this, “We maintain the peace through our strength; weakness only invites aggression.” The GOP platform addresses this by stating: We affirm our party’s tradition of world leadership established by President Eisenhower and followed by every Republican president since. It stands for enormous power — and the prudence to use it sparingly, precisely, and only in grave necessity. It stands for involvement, not intervention. It requires consultation, not permission to act. It leads from the front — and ensures all others do their parts as well. It embraces American exceptionalism and rejects the false prophets of decline and diminution. It is, in sum, the way we will lead the world into a new century of greater peace and prosperity — another American Century.
